Connection.
When I started out in business, it was very much created with a passion for people, connection and constant learning. The perfect summary of the drive behind everything I want to achieve - in all aspects of life.
Throughout previous employment I had always found myself in positions where I could engage, connect, build rapport, share knowledge and genuinely support my clients - I find it incredibly rewarding to help others and build connection in doing so.
I grew up in a time where the neighbourhood children played together in the street til dark, we all played sport and plenty of it - fostering friendships for life and an understanding of loyalty and commitment. There’s something about childhood memories that feels softer around the edges, like they’ve been filtered through warmth and time, but largely relevant to who we become. It’s about noticing what shaped you.
Last week I took a leap as an exhibitor at the Tasmanian Small Business Expo, hugely outside of my comfort zone being ‘on display’ as a solo small business operator myself. It took an absolute village to get there and I am so incredibly grateful for the support of those in my circle to make it happen. What an incredible experience and opportunity for growth! I was so fortunate to have many beautiful conversations with other like-minded people and ultimately packed up my display with a full heart and new ideas for the future of my business.
The most fulfilling conversations at the expo were with people who believe in people. We shared stories about the power of connection and community, and that those values should be paramount above possessions and material items, especially in a world that’s seemingly built to break us. While technology absolutely has its place, it’s foolish to rely on it to replace too much of what once bought us together in human connection. These are the fundamentals that guide how I live and work, grounded in a deep appreciation for what’s real, human, and truly meaningful.
Being gentle and kind are a huge part of our household. Which brings me to one of my proudest parenting moments to date. Yesterday, Master-almost- six was awarded a Certificate at his first school assembly for living their values of ‘connection’. His certificate reads that it was awarded for:
“His enthusiasm for knowledge, and his curiosity and wonder about his connection to the world, environment and place, are a delight to witness. He always has a story to share, linking his experiences with what we are learning. He cares very much about others, looking after his peers and showing kindness every day, whether through positive comment, making a friend or helping someone who is hurt. Thank you for looking after us”.
I rarely find myself speechless, but on a personal level, I can’t put into words how proud I am of my son - wise beyond his years, living his values, and with a heart as big as his spirit.
People, in particular those with an energy that aligns with mine, are absolutely the heart of my business and the reason Syntro Scheduling exists.
If this resonates, I’d love to work with you!
Gemma
